Sunbury's Anzac Day celebrations were bathed in sunshine today as more than 2000 residents paid their respects to Australia’s servicemen and women.
The event saw dozens of schools, emergency service volunteers, service clubs and other community organisations lay wreaths at the cenotaph, by the Village Green.
Earlier a march travelled from the Sunbury Post Office to the township’s commemorative centre.
Children from the Sunbury Air League assisted in ceremonies guarding a series of flags, while guest speaker retired Major Michael Hoffman spoke about Gallipoli and its indelible impact on the country’s psyche.
This year’s Anzac celebrations across the country have honoured the sacrifices of World War I which broke out in 1914.
Next year will mark a century since the Gallipoli landing.
